Gold for the Divine Light of the Creator God

I am writing you these instructions so that... you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. (1 Tim. 1:20)

God is not a God of disorder but of peace. (1 Cor. 14:33)

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. (1 Jn. 1:5)

The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. (John 1:9)

God created and ordered the world, and established structures and hierarchies to make it function properly:

God and his people; governments and citizens; masters and servants; husbands and wives; parents and children; mankind and nature.

I bow my knee before the Father from whom all father-hood in heaven and on earth is named. (Eph. 3:14-15)

Purple for Kings and Governments

The biblical establishment of the most basic form of government can be traced to God's decree to Noah of capital punishment for murder in Genesis 11:5-6. The Law was given to Israel through Moses, and later Judges and Kings were established. Jesus upheld even a pagan government's right to rule by saying "Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's." The Apostle Paul wrote that "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which is from God." And Peter concurred: "Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human authority." Peter reveals that God's purpose for governors is "to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right." But Jesus also taught worldly governments don't always measure up to the Divine standard. (Mark 12:17; Rom. 13:1-7; 1 Pet. 2:13-16; Matt. 20:25-26)

Gray for the Steel Chains & Silver Coins of Work

Whether it's conscripted labor as a prisoner, the rigid hierarchy of a soldier in the military, or working 9-5 as an employee for the "slave-driver" boss at work, most of us are subject to a master's commands as we work for our daily bread.

The Apostle Paul exhorts servants to "obey your earthly masters in everything" and "whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."

Are you lucky enough to be the master and not the servant? The Apostle admonishes: "Masters, provide your servants with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven." (Col. 3-22-4:1)

Ivory for Men and their Seed of Life

The human race has two biological sexes. This has apparently become confusing.

The color ivory is reminiscent of the gametes of the male sex, the seed of life which beget children. It's unfortunate we need to choose such an evocative symbol. But don't think about it too deeply, it's just a color.

Men - Husbands - Fathers

Beget new life; Build civilization; Train the next generation.

Procreate - Protect - Provide - Preside.

Men must diligently obey and serve those above them, and benevolently and lovingly rule those under their care.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)

Every man should be master of his own household.

(Esther 1:22)

Love your wives... train and care for [her]... Do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. (Eph. 5:25, 29, 6:4)

Scarlet for Women and their Flow of Fertility

Red is not the color of the female gamete, but it is emblematic of the female reproductive cycle and the ongoing preparation of the woman's womb to accept and nurture new human life.

In God's household, women's unique role is to follow, help, and obey their husbands, and to nurture, care for, and train up the next generation. (Gen 2:18; Prov. 31; Col. 3:18; Titus 2:4-5)

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)

May the Lord make the woman who is coming into your home like Rachel and Leah, who together built up the family of Israel. (Ruth 4:11)

Aqua Blue for Children and the Water of Birth

Aqua blue is meant to very abstractly represent the "water" of birth from which children emerge into the outside world.

Ideally they will be welcomed by a loving father and mother into an ordered community, all of whom will help them grow into the men and women they are meant to be.

Children are a blessing and a gift from the Lord. (Ps 127:3)

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother. (Eph. 6:1-2)

Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
They are a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck. (Prov. 1:8-9)

No one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. (John 3:5)

Green for Mankind's Stewardship over Nature

The natural world is a great gift to us from God. We are meant to use it well and rule over it well, for the good of all. God sends the sun and the rain to the righteous and the wicked; he clothes the flowers of the field and feeds the birds of the air. And he cares for us much more.

Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” (Genesis 1:28)

The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. (Genesis 2:15)

As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease. (Genesis 8:22)
